Statewide Incentives for Business
All incentives offered in Indiana are project specific, since every company's needs are different. Listed below are incentives which might be available for your project.
Skills 2016
Indiana's Skills 2016 program is composed of the State's diverse training and educational programs designed to provide financial assistance to existing and new businesses committed to offering lifelong learning and training opportunities to their workforce.
Job Service Matching System (JSMS)
'NEW' Customer Self-Service System (CS3) which offers the latest technology in matching qualified applicants with the needs of the business community. Provides access to a state-wide pool of job applicants including access to the internet. Starting in early 1999, businesses will have the ability to list their own job orders and make their own selections of qualified applicants or continue to use the experienced staff of the Workforce Development System to assist in screening applicants.
Infrastructure Grants and Loans
Assistance from the state provides local communities with infrastructure improvements to a company's site. Such infrastructure grants may include funding for roads, railways, water and sewer lines, and drainage.
Edge Program
Economic Development for a Growing Economy is an incentive designed specifically for "large" projects, typically those with more than 100 jobs and a wage rate at least equal to the county average. This program allows Indiana income tax withholdings from company employees to be credited against the company's Indiana corporate income tax liability.
2. The amount of the credit can not exceed the incremental State Personal Income Tax attributable to the company's project. At this time the net effective rate is approximately 3%. The amount may be less. It can not be more than the increment.
3. The length of benefit is a maximum of ten years. The term can be less than ten years.
4. EDGE requires a commitment from the company to maintain the operation at the original project location for a period of time two times as long as the term of the tax credit.
5. Several conditions must be met to be eligible for EDGE * New jobs must be created * Project must be economically sound Example: For a company with an annual payroll of $2 million, the maximum EDGE benefit would be $60,000 per year for up to 10 years.
Nation's Lowest Worker's Compensation And Unemployment Costs
In the 1990 Grant Thorton Manufacturing Climate Study, Indiana was ranked the third best on both factors that related to Worker's Compensation costs.
Low Worker's Compensation Insurance Rates
The cost of worker's compensation insurance premiums varies greatly from state to state. How the state administers the program and the level of benefits mandated by its legislature drive these costs. In Indiana, this cost is exceptionally low. Our program is well-managed, and well-funded. The program has remained so despite an increase in benefit levels in recent years.
Low Unemployment Compensation Costs
Your company can expect to pay less for unemployment compensation costs in Indiana than in any other state in the Midwest.
